Startups and Entrepreneurs
We want to invest in you and your good idea! Red Wing Ignite is invested in helping local entrepreneurs and startup companies grow. We are home to smart people, gig access and have a network of support to help you reach your business goals.
Red Wing Ignite has a business accelerator for early stage businesses and hosts events to foster collaboration and innovation. We have an esteemed board of directors, community advisory group, national and regional networks that are eager to support entrepreneurs by offering advice, making connections, testing solutions or just cheering you on. We link you to mentors, investors and customers to advance your business.
Red Wing Ignite is part of a national network (US Ignite) that shares a goal of creating Gig-worthy applications. We “ignite” the development and deployment of new apps with profound impact on how Americans work, live, learn and play.
By bringing together like-minded entrepreneurs, investors and advisors, we create a unique ecosystem for the Red Wing community to share ideas, resources and expertise. This ecosystem, in turn, promotes local and regional economic development through new company creation and expansion. We’ve found that when there’s a network of support and a community of likeminded cohorts pushing each other that businesses launch better and faster.
Four part-time technology ambassadors have been hired in Winona, Rochester, Red Wing and the Twin Cities to help maintain connections with businesses, entrepreneurs, investors and technology builders. Funding for these positions is being provided by grants from US Ignite and the National Science Foundation

Events & Networking
Last year Red Wing Ignite hosted 150 events; 17 events were focused on learning opportunities for business members. We bring in trainers based on need expressed from members. We also host meetings where members can work with members to learn more about their areas of expertise. It’s an opportunity to learn from others and demonstrate your own expertise. Here is a link to see upcoming events.
Red Wing Ignite is working with Minnesota State College Southeast and local makers on a Maker Space (RWMaker) – a place where community members can use and learn more about equipment and tools to make, invest and innovate. The joint venture is in the conceptual phase of development, but a newly re-furbished 2000 square foot lab is already beginning to fill up with equipment. This includes, but isn’t limited to, a CNC machine donated by Lockheed Martin and the Department of Defense, a row of CAD/engineering computer workstations, a 3D printer, and power woodworking tools. Each year, Red Wing Ignite hosts an Ignite Cup, a competition for start-up businesses in southern Minnesota. The winner has the chance to compete as a semifinalist in the statewide MN Cup business competition. All participants get a chance to pitch their business idea to judges and receive feedback. It’s a great testbed for talking to investors and clients. You might even meet a few potential partners at the event. Learn about past competitions. This event is hosted in April.
